A move that changed the direction

CJ moved from Chicago to Minneapolis in 2017 after eight years in corporate sales. Not long after, he bought a side-by-side duplex and lived in one unit while renting out the other.

That experience gave him a firsthand look at what owning real estate could actually do. It was more than having a place to live. He saw how the right property could build equity, create income, and become part of a much bigger financial picture.

It also meant learning the less glamorous side of ownership. Inspections, aging mechanicals, contractors, repairs, unexpected costs, and the decisions that come with maintaining a property were all part of it.

By 2019, CJ had made the move into real estate full time.

That experience still shapes the way he works with clients today. He looks at homes not only as an agent, but as someone who has owned them, managed them, improved them, and dealt with the real costs that come with them.

Norman Homes, a husband-and-wife team

CJ and Katy Norman co-founded Norman Homes, a husband-and-wife real estate team with Pemberton RE serving Mound and the Lake Minnetonka area.

Clients get two experienced people thinking through pricing, preparation, marketing, negotiation, inspections, and timing, in every conversation from the first call through closing.

They also host Key Conversations, a podcast where CJ and Katy sit down with local professionals for honest conversations about homes, money, business, and life around the lake.

Who CJ helps

CJ focuses on four kinds of moves around Mound and the Lake Minnetonka area. Each one has its own math, its own timeline, and its own places where buyers and sellers lose money.

Lake Minnetonka lakefront buyers and sellers

Lakefront value on Lake Minnetonka comes down to details that do not show up in a listing photo: which bay a home sits on, water depth at the dock, shoreline type, exposure to wind and wake, and what the LMCD allows for dock structures and boat storage. CJ walks shorelines with clients, explains what a bay is actually like in July versus October, and prices lakefront and lake-access homes against sales that genuinely compare.

Move-up buyers and growing families

Most move-up buyers are solving two problems at once: buying the next house and selling the current one without landing between them. CJ maps the order of operations, the financing paths that make a non-contingent offer possible, and the timing that keeps a family in one home until the next one is ready. School district lines across Westonka, Minnetonka, Orono, and Wayzata often decide the search area before price does.

Downsizers planning the next chapter

Downsizing in the west metro is rarely just about square footage. It is equity built over decades, a house full of belongings, single-level living, association fees, and a timeline that has to work for the whole family. CJ helps sellers understand what their home is worth using comparable sales, decide which updates are worth doing before listing, and move at a pace that does not feel rushed.

New construction buyers: spec, semi-custom, and custom homes

Builder contracts are written by the builder. CJ represents buyers through all three paths: finished spec homes, semi-custom plans with a fixed selection list, and fully custom builds on a chosen lot. That means reviewing the purchase agreement and allowance sheet, separating included features from upgrades that get billed later, tracking the build and walkthrough punch list, and being clear about which upgrades hold value at resale.

How he works

If a client is selling, CJ helps them understand what the home is worth using comparable sales, prioritize the updates that actually pay for themselves, and set a pricing strategy that fits the season and the competition.

If a client is buying, he helps them compare homes honestly and understand the neighborhoods, the lake, and what daily life looks like in each one.

He listens first, explains the tradeoffs, and gives people room to decide. The goal is not a quick deal. It is a good move and a relationship that lasts well beyond closing.

Away from work

CJ earned a bachelor's degree in Organizational and Corporate Communications with a minor in Psychology from Northern Illinois University. Outside of real estate, he enjoys boating on Lake Minnetonka, golf, martial arts training, and working toward a private pilot license.
